New Granger Trek Shop a Dream Come True

“Good bicycle fit is crucial. It’s like shopping for shoes, you need to try them on and see how they feel.”   Steve Peterson, owner Trek Bicycle Store Granger

GRANGER, IN—Some people walk the walk. Steve Peterson bikes the bike. The owner of the Elkhart Bicycle Shop opened Trek Bicycle Store Granger on July 6 and, despite the extra back and forth of running two shops, he still manages to get in his miles—making the 30-minute commute between stores on his bike.

Steve has sold Trek bikes (and other brands) in his Elkhart store for years, but following his dream to keep growing, has worked with Trek for several years to bring the new concept store to Granger. The store is stocked with bikes for all interests, from road and performance bikes to mountain, fat tire, cruisers and e-bikes or “commuters” that have electric assistance for pedaling ease. The store also has an extensive range of Bontrager  branded products that includes helmets, tires, wheels, handlebars, stems, seatposts, saddles, electronics, cycling shoes and other bike accessories along with cycling clothing.

Steve and his staff have no trouble asking the questions that need to be asked when it comes to finding the right bike for each customer who walks in the door.

“We’ll talk about what kind of riding they do—or plan to do—and make sure they try out several styles, giving them an education along the way.”  Granger’s multi-use pathways connect to the store’s Heritage Square location, giving people the ideal location to test out bikes before they buy.

“Good bicycle fit is crucial,” said Steve. “It’s like shopping for shoes, you need to try them on and see how they feel.” So he is all on board with Trek’s “lifetime custom bike fitting” policy which not only ensures the perfect fit when you walk out the door with your new bike, but also repeat fitting years down the road.

Finding the right people to serve at the new store was a key challenge, Steve said, but he feels he has found the right mix of cycling mechanics. While the store only sells Trek bikes, the shop provides service for all brands.

The Waterloo, WI-based Trek has been the No. 1 selling bike brand in the United States for 17 years in a row.

No sooner did the doors open this summer than did a Wednesday night group ride get stated. Taking off at 6pm, cyclists rode about 30 miles divided into two groups of 20mph and 17mph.

“It was a no-drop ride,” Steve said. “The group worked together to make sure everyone had a good workout and that all made it back to the shop safely.” Keep an eye out on the Trek Bicycle Store Granger Facebook page for product, cycling news  and updates for 2018 weekly rides.
