SOUTH BEND, IN—It’s Sunburst season! The streets are filling with runners— early morning and in the evening, with strollers and/or dogs in tow, as groups or individuals with hydration systems strapped to their backs and Gu in hand. You know I LOVE it!
We recently had our last Sunburst steering committee meeting where race director Travis Bladecki brought us up to speed on what’s new and improved for 2018.
Finish on the 50: Registration numbers look strong as of early May, due much in part to the 35th annual race finishing on the 50-yard line inside Notre Dame Stadium. (I hadn’t realized it has been five years since we had that exclusive luxury.) All participants will have the thrill of running onto the field through the same tunnel used by the Irish football team.
As in years past, spectators are welcome in the stands, but will not be allowed on the field. Once participants have visited the post-race food and hydration tent, they are encouraged to join their families and fans in the stands. Also, as in the past, once off the field, participants will not be allowed back on.
